Two parts, one certification path

Blended learning is a good fit when a student wants to complete the knowledge portion online before meeting in person for skills practice. It can reduce the time needed for the in-person session while still requiring hands-on evaluation.

  • First Response confirms the right course and sends the invoice.
  • After payment, the HSI online course link is issued to the student.
  • The student completes the assigned online coursework before the skills session.
  • First Response completes the required hands-on skills practice and evaluation in person.
  • Certification is issued after all required online and hands-on objectives are successfully completed.

Important blended-course terms

Online first

The online coursework must be completed before the in-person skills session. If the online portion is not complete, the skills session may need to be rescheduled.

Use a larger screen

A laptop, desktop computer, Chromebook, or tablet is strongly recommended. Mobile phones may not display all course features correctly.

Refund policy

Approved refunds for any class exclude non-recoverable third-party costs, including course credits or materials already purchased or assigned, payment processing fees not returned by the processor, and any refund-related processor fees.

When blended learning makes sense

Blended learning is often useful for individuals, small groups, busy professionals, and employers who want to reduce time away from work. If a student is not comfortable with online coursework or does not have access to a compatible device, a different format may be a better fit when available.

If you are not sure whether your employer accepts HSI certification or whether blended format is right for your situation, contact First Response before paying for class.

Blended learning FAQ

Can I do the online course on my phone?

A mobile phone may work for some students, but it is not the best option. Course videos and full-screen prompts may not display correctly. A laptop, desktop computer, Chromebook, or tablet is strongly recommended.

Can we do the skills session before the online portion is complete?

No. The assigned online coursework must be completed before the in-person skills session.

What happens if I cannot get the online course to work?

First Response can help with basic access questions, but course playback and device compatibility may depend on the student's device, browser, and internet connection. If the online portion is not complete, the skills session may need to be rescheduled.
